POSITION SUMMARY:

The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) is the regional planning and intergovernmental coordination agency that focuses on issues critical to the region’s success, including growth and development, transportation, water resources, services for older adults and workforce solutions. ARC is dedicated to unifying the region’s collective resources to prepare the metropolitan area for a prosperous future. This is done through professional planning initiatives, the provision of objective information and the involvement of the community in collaborative partnerships.

The ARC Research & Analytics Group is seeking a Modeling Assistant (part-time, temporary) to support conformity forecasting and landuse model development within the Center of Livable Communities. The ideal candidate for this position will be familiar spatial economic modeling with JAVA and Python programming skills. To be successful, candidates should have solid time management skills, ability to work independently and possess a desire to learn, overcome challenges and solve problems. This temporary position is not eligible for benefits; working up to 29 hours per week (more hours in the summer).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support programming and development of conformity forecasting and land use model;
  • Process and manipulate spatial data and generate related modeling analysis;
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support agency goals and objectives.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Knowledge of JAVA and Python programming;
  • Possess strong analytical and technical skills;
  • Possess strong oral and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to establish priorities and organize work;
  • Ability to multi-task with attention to detail;
  • Ability to work independently with general instructions;
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:S

  • High School Diploma
  • Two (2) years of programming experience

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION:

  • College experience in the area of planning, GIS, software development, computer science, modeling or related field

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
